Susquehanna Fly and Spin Fishing Report for July 19, 2010

This past week had mixed results as one of the days we had smallies and catfish feeding in a short 2 hour period just before the storms came through the area. The next day I had a fly charter for an excellent double hauling, father and son team, and by the end of the day we ended up with a few smallmouth and a couple of catfish making it to the boat. We had a great time, a few laughs, and even got a couple nice pictures. If you catch the bite right just right, it can be good! Give us a call to get in on the hot summer action!

Hi Gang,

The river was at 3.9 with 14,400CF of flow and 81 degrees at the beginning of the week and at the end of the week we had 3.4 with 7,700CF of flow and 82 degrees. The BP was 30.40 and steady.

1. Trip #1 – Guide Scouting Trip – This was on Tuesday and we fished from 5:00 – 6:30 PM and we boated 5 bass. The largest was 14.5” and we caught it on a rebel wee craw and all the fish were caught on Crankbaits. We had 3.5 – Clear – 8,100 CF – Steady and 81-83 degrees. It was extremely windy and we had a BP of 30.25 and steady.

2. Trip #2 – Guide Trip – This was on Wednesday PM Trip and we boated 11 bass and the largest was 18.5”. We caught them all on Crankbaits and Salty Spider Grubs. We had 3.4 – Clear – 7,700CF and 81 degrees. It was windy with a BP of 30.50 and steady.

3. Trip #3 – Guide Scouting Trip – This was on Saturday and we fished from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM and we boated 3 bass. The largest was 16” and we caught them all on Crankbaits and YUM Dingers. We had 3.4 – Steady – Clear – 7,000CF – 82 degrees. We had clear weather and a BP of 30.45 and steady. We got stuck two times and I had to drag the boat off the rocks.

4. Trip #4 – No Trip

5. Trip #5 – No Trip

5. The bass fishing in the Harrisburg Area is starting to improve but you have to cover a lot of water. The fish are really scattered.

6. Dave will soon have his new custom boat ready for Guide Trips. We have put extra thought into this design to specifically aide us in our Catfish Trips.

7. I will be speaking at the July 12th Fish Commission Meeting. Please come out and share your comments and observations with us. The meeting starts at 7:00 PM and I understand there will be a Question & Answer Period. This may be a good time to let the commission know how you feel about the state of the river and what kind of job you think they are doing.

Susquehanna River Fishing Report for July Fourth Week

The river is down to its lowest levels of the year with crystal clear water and lots of fish being seen cruising the shallows. If you know the spots some good sized summer smallies can be caught. A few large musky have also been seen in certain areas waiting for the right presntation to pass in front of them. Remember this time of year is Carpe Carp on fly Time a Give us a call to experience the action on a beautiful summer time Susquehanna River. Remember to revive the fish you catch and use proper handling and catch and release techniques.
